Instructions

  • If you've prepared our homemade pizza dough following the recipe and proofing instructions, proceed with the next steps.
  • Lay the dough on a flat surface, lightly dusted with semolina or cornmeal. If necessary, sprinkle some flour on top of the dough or flip it upside-down.
  • Gently use your fingertips to depress the dough ball while stretching and pulling it to form an approx. 10-inch circle. Avoid pressing down on the edges if you prefer the Neapolitan-style airy, fluffy rim.
  • Preheat the oven to 390 Fahrenheit (ca. 200 °C).
  • Line a baking tray with parchment paper and transfer the pizza crust dough to the tray by hand. Gently arrange it back to a circle shape.
  • Spread hummus generously in the middle. Top it with sliced red onions, halved cherry tomatoes, sun-dried tomato pieces, green and black pitted olives, and cheese.
  • Place it on the oven rack and bake for 10-15 minutes or until the outer crust turns golden brown.

Notes

Variations
  • Raw vegetables like thinly sliced eggplants, red bell pepper, zucchini, mushrooms, or asparagus.
  • Leftover roasted vegetables: Since they are already roasted, go for hard veggies that otherwise are not suitable for pizza, like broccoli, sweet potato, or butternut squash.
  • Canned vegetables: sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, or capers.
  • Legumes: canned or cooked beans, lentils, chickpeas. Hide them under the cheese so that they don't dry out.
  • More cheese: mozzarella cheese in place or combination with feta cheese.
  • Fruits: figs are amazing on pizza
  • Fresh herbs or leafy greens: We always add baby spinach, arugula (aka rocket salad), or fresh basil leaves after baking.
  • Pesto: A swirl of this spinach pesto or this sun-dried tomato pesto will give a fantastic flavor boost to any hummus pizza.
